Miriam Carpenter
“Sisters”, 2016

Dimensions:
17 × 2.5 × 27 in (W x D x H)
43.18 x 6.35 x 68.58 cm

Multi-axis split-turned & carved ebonized ash framed mirror with hand-rubbed oil finish.  Designed in 2016

This mirror is a sculptural exploration of symmetry, created through a split-turning design and technique that transforms wood into the suggestion of two female forms in dialogue. The process yields identical figures, their symmetry completed in reflection. The wood is ebonized to emphasize form while honoring the natural grain, and the mirror’s back is carefully wrapped with Dacron and wool, adding a tactile softness to the piece’s quiet strength.
