Design Miami/ Los Angeles

Moderne Gallery is excited to announce its participation in Design Miami/ Los Angeles, May 16-20, 2024.
The debut of Design Miami/ Los Angeles will take place at a Holmby Hills estate near Beverly Hills. Invitation-only Preview Days are scheduled for May 16th and 17th.

Moderne Gallery’s exhibit at Design Miami/ Los Angeles will focus on rare and important works by George Nakashima, alongside a curated selection of historical and contemporary works by esteemed artists Miriam Carpenter, L. Brent Kington, Estelle Halper, Hashimoto Tomonari, Tanaka Tomomi and Bobby Silverman. At the heart of the presentation, a masterwork by Miriam Carpenter and never before seen pieces by George Nakashima, from a single estate, featuring a Special Single-Board Dining Table and Large Special Kornblut Cabinet. This exhibit provides a unique opportunity to experience the convergence of masterpieces spanning the 20th and 21st centuries, all within the intimate setting of a home environment. It encapsulates the essence of the studio movement, offering a glimpse into this creative world and the enduring allure of craftsmanship.

Design aficionados have a new reason to celebrate! We’re heading west for the first time to bring you Design Miami/Los Angeles from May 16th to 20th, 2024.

Be sure to save the date, because you won’t want to miss the debut of Design Miami/ Los Angeles. We’ll be presenting the exceptional collectible design and visionary programming that we’re known for, all within a dazzling, historic Holmby Hills estate that was originally designed by legendary 20th-century architect Paul Williams in the 1930s and has since been expanded to encompass 30,000 square feet across three gorgeous buildings.

We’re so ready to leave our mark on LA! This West Coast expansion arrives on the heels of Design Miami’s acquisition by LA-based curated marketplace Basic.Space and our successful inaugural Paris edition last October. In a city renowned for its dynamic creative scene and diverse cultural landscape, Design Miami/ Los Angeles promises to bring an exciting new dimension, inspiring and captivating audiences with a new celebration of design excellence.

The announcement of our West Coast debut comes alongside more exciting news. Henrik Purienne, LA and Paris-based visual artist and founder of Mirage Magazine, has been appointed Design Miami/ Global Creative Director for our 2024 events. Purienne will provide art direction and visual expression across our fairs in Los Angeles, Basel, Paris, and Miami this year.

In addition, collectible design market advisor and curator Ashlee Harrison, formerly of Carpenters Workshop Gallery, has been named the Curatorial Director of the Los Angeles fair. Harrison will curate a thoughtful presentation of international collectible design galleries with hand-selected and site-specific installations of historical and contemporary furniture, lighting, and objets d’art throughout the three-acre Holmby Hills estate.
