A bamboo wall vase by Tanabe Chikuunsai II. The work can either hang or sit atop a surface. The vase’s main structure is crafted from Madake, or Japanese Timber Bamboo, a giant running bamboo native to China and Japan. It reaches heights of 40 to 60 feet with thick-walled, dark green stems up to 5 inches wide. Prized for its strength, it is widely used in construction, crafts, and flutes.
