About this Nakashima Hanging Wall Cabinet

Like all George Nakashima furniture, this wall hung cabinet blends the intention of utilitarian use with a commitment to craftsmanship and beauty. This piece features four sliding grilled doors, dovetailed edges and a front free-edge overhang. The doors feature pandanus cloth, a textile originating from the Maluku Islands of Indonesia. This cloth has a rich history of ceremonial and utilitarian use, including in canoe sails, a testament to its beauty and durability. The interior of this hanging wall cabinet is fitted with open shelves surrounding a slide out shelf and 4 drawers.

Wall Hung Cabinet with Natural Design

This piece exemplifies Nakashima’s mastery in blending natural materials and minimalist design, creating a timeless storage solution that doubles as a work of art.

Measuring an impressive 10 feet in length, it features four sliding doors that seamlessly blend form and function. The doors, designed for smooth operation, provide easy access to the spacious interior, offering ample storage for a variety of items. The wall-hung design not only saves floor space but also adds a modern, airy feel to any room.

George Nakashima Cabinets

This wall hung cabinet is one of many cabinets created by George Nakashima. In the year of its creation, Nakashima had recently opened the Arts Building, a gallery housed on the family’s New Hope homestead. It is one of many cabinets created on-site in the woodworking studio on the homestead, with inspiration taken from the natural form of each carefully chosen woodcut.

George Nakashima – Master Woodworker

George Nakashima, a master woodworker and a pivotal figure in the American Studio Craft Movement, is celebrated for his ability to transform raw wood into functional art. This cabinet is a testament to his meticulous attention to detail and his profound respect for the inherent beauty of wood.

Each element of this Nakashima hanging wall cabinet is carefully crafted to highlight the wood’s unique grain patterns and natural characteristics.
