This versatile piece by Sam Maloof is both a functional server and an elegant desk. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, it features two shallow drawers in walnut, adorned with ebony pulls. The main body of the table showcases exquisite and highly figured maple with expertly crafted dovetail joints on each side. This piece exemplifies the quintessential California design of the 20th century, characterized by Maloof’s use of the ‘California roll over”. Instead of leaving the wood’s natural free edge, Maloof incorporated a rounded ‘roll over’ along the edges, adding a distinct touch of craftsmanship to his work.
