Drawing on the historic ladderback chair and canonical designs such as Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Hill House Chair, Peter Pierobon reimagines the familiar typology through a distinctly postmodern vocabulary. Executed in ebonized mahogany, the conventional ladder-back structure gives way to a sequence of carved, rhythmic elements, transforming an archetypal chair into a graphic and sculptural composition.
Originally from Vancouver, Pierobon developed an important relationship with Philadelphia, teaching at the University of the Arts for twelve years throughout the late 1980s and 1990s while maintaining his studio practice.
