American Studio Craft master Michael Hurwitz’s “Guestling Table”. Made from maple with inlayed motifs of wenge, the work’s harmonious proportions and sweeping curves demonstrate Hurwitz’s mastery of material, form, and technique.
Reflecting on his work, Hurwitz notes: “My continuing challenge as a maker is to make furniture that, through time, continues to feel fresh and vital, with a physical presence that doesn’t impose itself or dominate a space. My hope is that my furniture will be there when it is needed and quietly waiting when it’s not” (‘Speaking of Furniture’, Bebe Pritam Johnson and Warren Eames Johnson, 2013, p. 289).
