Crafted in 2003 for his firm, Sodergren Furniture, the “Sculptured Chair” was created by designer Evert Sodergren (1920–2013).

Sodergren was one of Seattle’s standout studio furniture makers from the 1950s into the early 2000s. He spent nearly 30 years teaching furniture design at the University of Washington, leaving a lasting mark on regional artisans and designers throughout the Pacific Northwest. Today, major institutions including MoMA, the Smithsonian, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston exhibit his work as prime examples of Pacific Northwest Modernism.

Originally conceived in 1953, the “Sculptured Chair” showcases Sodergren’s mastery of precise woodworking, organic shapes, and ergonomic comfort.
