Negotiations of Form and Function

Moderne Gallery is proud to present Negotiations of Form and Function, a curated feature of Studio Craft works by historic and contemporary artists.

The exhibition explores a wide array of Studio Craft furniture and objects across different generations while showcasing a diverse array of aesthetics, techniques, materiality, and negotiations of form and function.

The works featured demonstrate the range of unique artistic and philosophical visions that are inherent to the movement and categorization. Whether a naturalistic, curvilinear free edged bench, an expressive, angular sofa, a chair that seemingly blurs lines between object, furniture, and painting, a hand-carved feather that appears borne from nature, or a stool that emerges as an extra-terrestrial form, the pieces on view elucidate the unique, diverse artistry and craftsmanship characteristic of the Studio Craft tradition.
