Mel and Mark Lindquist were a woodworking, father-son duo renowned as pioneers in the American studio woodturning movement. They lived and worked in Henniker, New Hampshire in the 1970s and 1980s. Mel was a pioneer in the studio wood turning movement and was a master machinist. He was inspired by Greek and Roman ceramics. He often left natural wood imperfections in his pieces. Mark Lindquist was born in 1949 and was Mel’s studio apprentice growing up. Mark graduated from the New England College in Henniker in 1971 and earned his M.F.A. from Florida State University in 1990. The Lindquists’ have work in many important museum collections across the country.
The Lindquists were recognized for their innovative work, often pushing the boundaries of traditional blacksmithing techniques. Their creations blended craftsmanship with artistic expression, contributing to the evolution of metalwork into a recognized form of contemporary art.
