Mark Levin
Mark Levin is an American woodworker based in Albuquerque, NM. He originally pursued an education in medicine, which was primarily enforced by his parents. Realizing his lack of happiness in the field, he got his parents to compromise on a degree in architecture. He was taught by Bobby Falwell, a former graduate student of Wendell Castle at R.I.T., in Dekalb, Illinois at Northern Illinois University.
Levin’s work uses various stack lamination techniques. Pieces are roughed out with chainsaws and automobile disc drivers, then refined with sanders and other hand tools. Levin works primarily with cherry, maple, walnut, and mahogany. Levin has stated that he is strongly influenced by “natures small wonders”, things like leaves, flowers, fruits, seashells, and nuts.
