Robert Aibel has been doing appraisals of the work of George Nakashima, Wharton Esherick, Sam Maloof and many others of the American Studio Craft Movement, as well as French and American Art Deco, for over 20 years. He has completed appraisals for the Wharton Esherick and George Nakashima families, and is the regular appraiser for modern and contemporary decorative arts for the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Written appraisals can be done for insurance, estate and/or sale purposes at a cost of $200 per hour. Most appraisals can be performed via email or regular mail, expediting the process so that a typical fee is based on 1-2 hours of work.
In order to do an appraisal, we request photos of each whole item, a photo of the top of anything with a top surface, and photos of any special details. In addition, we require the dimensions of each item and copies of any documentation (invoices, drawings, etc.) that you might have.
